Yes, we’re talking about the oft-overlooked ghost tour, which can be just as thrilling as a haunted house, but has the added bonus of elements of regional history added to the mix!

On top of being a really good time, ghost tours also give you the chance to be active with your family while giving you the opportunity to stock up on your supply of scary campfire stories for your next camping trip. What could be more awesome for an outdoors-loving family?

Willoughby Ghost Walk; Willoughby, Ohio — Take this guided 12-block tour of downtown Willoughby to hear first-hand accounts of paranormal activity and unexplained spookiness from shop owners, town residents and guides. The walking tour lasts about an hour and 45 minutes, and requires reservations.

Villisca Ax Murder House Ghost Tour; Villisca, Iowa In 1912, this home in Iowa was the site of an ax murder. The entire family of Josiah Moore was killed, along with two visiting houseguests. The murder mystery still remains unsolved today. Some paranormal investigators believe the house is haunted; take a daytime ghost tour with your teens to decide for yourself.

Lincoln’s Ghost Walk: Legends & Lore; Springfield, Illinois Looking for a ghost tour that’s heavy on the history, and low on scares? Take Lincoln’s Ghost Walk, and learn about the strange pieces of history surrounding the life and death of Abraham Lincoln. The 90-minute walking tour is suitable for all ages.

Ghosts of Kalamazoo Historic Tour; Kalamazoo, Michigan Adults and children ages 12 older can take this 45-minute tour through Kalamazoo to get filled in on the city’s “history with a twist.” Pick from four different tour sites, which include Downtown Kalamazoo, Mountain Home Cemetery, Riverside Cemetery and Celery Flats.

Grey Lady Ghost Tour; Evansville, Indiana The Grey Lady has been haunting the Willard Library in Evansville since the 1930s. She’s been spotted by library employees, university lecturers, partons and policemen. Take a ghost tour of the library to learn more about the history of The Grey Lady and to hear more about the unexplained events witnessed at the library.
