What is the best tip I can give you to help you become a successful turkey hunter? Know the area you will be hunting them.

That may sound rather obvious, but you would be surprised how many turkey hunters don't take the time to learn everything they possibly can about the land they hunt.

Get topo maps and aerial photos of the land and take them with you into the woods before the season. Find all the hardwood ridges and hillsides that turkeys like to roost on. Look for strut areas like flats, burn areas, and greenfields. Find travel areas between roosting and strutting areas.

While you're at it, look for fences, creeks, and gullies so you know where they are when you are trying to get a gobbler to come to your calls.
