Pro Brett Hite leads the Elite Series field heading into Championship Sunday at Lake Seminole
Brett Hite pulled out the whooping stick today, bringing in a limit weighing 26 pounds and 5 ounces for a three-day total of 71 pounds, 11 ounces. Hite leads his closest competitor by 9 pounds, 12 ounces.
Although that sounds impressive, that's just one bite on Lake Seminole.
In second is Pro Mark Davis whose three-day total weighed 61-15.
Rounding out the Top 5 are Mercury pro Bernie Schultz, weighing 61-10 for third. In fourth is Pro Kevin Short with 60-11. Fifth is held down by Pro Aaron Martens, bringing in 60 pounds.
Although he trails B. Hite by over 11 pounds, Aaron Martens weighed in the biggest bag today.
Hite's day magical
"My plan is coming together," said Hite. "I struggled early today. I only had five pounds at 1:30. The camera boat left and I headed to a spot I pre-fished. The fishing there was magical. I caught four big ones in an hour.
"I didn't have the conditions I wanted today. The high skies and sun were not ideal. Tomorrow I will have the conditions I want. When I get bites, if it all goes right, the fish are big ones. I will fish with my head down tomorrow like I don't have the lead."
Davis digs it
"I'm liking it out there," said Davis. "It fishes different each day. I sight fished on the first day. I used a Strike King 1.5 today. Every day is different. I gotta keep rolling. It's always good to fish on Sunday."
Slow start for Schultz
"I had nothing going on early today," said Schultz. "My day started slow. By 2:30 I was done. Hopefully the drastic weather change predicted for tomorrow will move more up the bank. I'm only a 10-pounder away from the win. I've got to get it done tomorrow."
Not many bites for Short
"I'm pretty happy," said Short. "It's the first time I've been here. I've always wanted to come here. It's a legendary place.
"Today I had a little bit of a struggle. I'm only getting 6 or 7 bites each day. If I catch them all I will catch a few big ones. I missed a couple today. I'm happy I get to fish tomorrow."
Phenomenal day for Martens
"Today was a day I dream about," said Martens. "It was a phenomenal day. I wanted to catch 25 pounds today to try and get into the final day. I caught over 29 pounds. I got most of that done early. I was jacked at 9 this morning. Today the fish were there. Don't know if they will be there tomorrow. I may have to scramble. I don't want to think about it. I just want to get out and fish tomorrow. I'm happy. Giddy."
