Consider downloading these great apps to add to your camping convenience.

(And for those who are phone-averse on camping trips, you can always consider your smartphone a sort of “Swiss Army Knife” for knowledge -- everything you need is compressed and conveniently located in one small device.)

1. “SAS Survival Guide” by (iPhone & Android)
Now, an encyclopedia’s worth of survival knowledge can fit in the palm of your hand. Included in this app: the bestselling book by John ''Lofty'' Wiseman, survival tip videos, a survival checklist, a comprehensive First Aid section and photo galleries of animal tracks, edible and poisonous plants, snakes and more.

2. Camp and RV - Tent Camping to RV Parks” by Allstays LLC (iPhone)
This app gives you access to important campground details -- from contact information to directions to reviews to available amenities and more -- for more than 24,950 campgrounds in the United States and Canada. In addition, users can easily look up overnight parking options such as Walmarts or casinos, as well as the locations of trucks stops with amenities and stores such as Bass Pro Shops and Costco.

The best part? Users have access to most all the information provided by the app, even when they have no service.

3. BackCountry Navigator PRO GPS” by CritterMap Software LLC (Android)
Going off the grid? This app provides you with detailed topographic maps beyond cellphone coverage -- just download the maps you’ll need in advance.

4. Camping Checklist” Google Play, Free (Android)
Feel like you’re always forgetting something? This is the app for you! Camping List comes pre-loaded with the following checklists: Camping, First Ad Checklist, RV camping checklist and a Tent camping checklist. The Camping Checklist also gives you the ability to create and save checklists for your journeys, as well as add notes and reminders to your lists. An added bonus? You can email your checklist to your fellow campers!

5. Flashlight Ⓞ” by iHandy Inc., Free (iPhone)
The name of the app says it all: This is a flashlight for your phone. While, hopefully, you’ve packed along ample light sources for your camping trip, it never hurts to be extra prepared.

6. "Coleman Downloads" by Marvel Apps, LLC (iPhone & Android)
Here are four camping adventure apps from Coleman that cover camp destinations, entertaininment, food and light. Coleman® Creepy Campfire Tales is a collection of scary stories to read around the campfire. The Coleman® Lantern application lets you choose from 10 different lanterns that fill your campsite with bright. Coleman's Camping Cookbook app lets you filter recipes by cooking method, type of meal, or available ingredients. Coleman provides a bunch of tips as well. Another cool app is the Coleman's "Coleman Park Expert" . This app will help you find state parks, campgrounds and many other outdoor or tourist locations.
