Outdoorsmen know that the key to a successful hunt is having everything you need with you. This is especially true of half-day hunts, full day hunts or journey hunts of longer than a single day. Many sporting goods suppliers sell hunting fanny packs for this purpose. Here is a guide to what to look for in a hunting pack.

Of course, there are many materials available. Cloth fanny packs may be durable, but they do nothing against the weather, especially when it is wet out. What you want in your hunting packs is a material that is waterproof and able to withstand cold temperatures. Some are available that offer this as a feature, but you could always treat your fanny packs with a waterproof spray yourself.

Another thing to look for in hunting packs is durability. Look for zippers that are not metal as this is a red flag. Make sure that the zippers have zipper-pulls that can be opened with mittens or gloves on your hands. This is especially important if you are going on a cold weather hunt or will be in the snow.

Then you want to look at the size of the fanny pack. Hunting packs need to be large enough to handle all the supplies you need to stay afield as long as you need to be. Sometimes, you may have to overstuff the pack. Look for hunting fannypacks that have multiple outside pockets, zipper compartments and internal pockets to maximize the space you have.

Now all those supplies will have a little weight, so look for hunting fannypacks that are lightweight when empty. Many are available that weigh only 1 to 3 pounds empty and this is desirable.

Of course, you want the hunting fanny pack to blend in with your clothing and be invisible to the eyes of your quarry. Hunting fanny packs are sold in hunting camouflage patterns like RealTree AP, Advantage Max-1 HD, Mossy Oak and more. The patterns available will depend on where you shop.

Now another consideration is storage space for bagged meat. You do need to carry all that meat back with you. Hunting fanny packs are sold that expand to a full pack with shoulder straps if needed. When expanded, they have compartments to carry bagged quarry easily and comfortably. Some even attach to a separate frame so if you have a REALLY successful hunt, you can drag that meat back to your car.

The main idea when looking for hunting fanny packs is to find one that keeps your supplies safe from the elements (things like toilet paper, etc...), has a light empty weight so you can load it up, is camouflaged so it remains invisible in the woods and has enough storage for your return trip. All these can be found at hunting or outdoor web sites.

A little shopping can reveal the perfect hunting fanny packs for your needs.
