This is often the perfect time to reflect on past <a href="https://www.basspro.com/c/hunting?cm_soc=onesource&amp;type=outdoor-news_the-outdoor-news_10-new-year-s-resolutions-for-hunters-anglers" target="_blank" title="Hunting gear at basspro.com">hunting</a> seasons and <a href="https://www.basspro.com/c/fishing?cm_soc=onesource&amp;type=outdoor-news_the-outdoor-news_10-new-year-s-resolutions-for-hunters-anglers" target="_blank" title="Fishing gear at basspro.com">fishing</a> memories made. It’s also a great opportunity to create new goals, break bad habits, and plan a new adventure.</p> <p><img alt="kids fly fishing" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="97bd7773-06d1-43cd-9151-d65a4c63bbff" height="236" src="//afd-production-eru2ractomp34-gjdjeybzcubvfrgz.z01.azurefd.net/sites/default/files/inline-images/kids_fly_fishing.jpg" style="margin: 5px; float: right;" title="Young angler learning to fly-fish" width="300" class="align-right" loading="lazy" />While most New Year’s Resolutions involve balancing the checkbook or strapping yourself to a treadmill, we decided to compile a few suggestions that might actually survive past February 1st. Here’s a list of New Year’s Resolutions designed with Hunters and Anglers in mind:</p> <h2>1. Take a First-Timer Hunting or Fishing</h2> <p>Remember the excitement you felt when you shot your first deer or hooked into that first trophy bass? There are plenty of kids (and adults) around the country who have never had the chance to experience the great outdoors.</p> <p>Whether it’s your own child or the neighbor down the street, resolve to take someone new afield with you. Passing on the tradition is one of the most important things we can do to preserve the things we love. Be careful, you just might find that seeing them have success is even more enjoyable than doing it on your own!</p> <h2>2. Organize Your Hunting &amp; Fishing Gear</h2> <p>How many times have you missed an opportunity or declined a last-minute invite simply because your pile of gear was not ready for action? Spend time this offseason maintaining, organizing, and streamlining your hunting gear or <a href="https://www.basspro.com/l/terminal-tackle?cm_soc=onesource&amp;type=outdoor-news_the-outdoor-news_10-new-year-s-resolutions-for-hunters-anglers" target="_blank" title="Shop a vast assortment of fishing tackle on basspro.com. ">fishing tackle</a>. Even if it costs a little more up front, you’ll save money in the long run—and earn a lot more memories.</p> <h2>3. Try a New Wild Game Recipe</h2> <p><img alt="duck bacon bites" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="0d2320a1-27d3-4325-9539-730e120d9893" height="189" src="//afd-production-eru2ractomp34-gjdjeybzcubvfrgz.z01.azurefd.net/sites/default/files/inline-images/duck_bacon_bites.jpg" style="margin: 5px; float: left;" width="200" class="align-right" loading="lazy" />When it comes to gear and tactics, we will try every little thing to gain an edge—but when we get in the kitchen, many of us stick to the tried-and-true methods we’ve been using for years. Make a vow to branch out and try at least one new recipe when cooking your fish or wild game this season—you may find a new favorite. Be sure to check out the <a href="https://www.cabelas.com/browse.cmd?categoryId=562839480" target="_blank" title="Check out the Cook With Cabela's website for wild game recipes, preparation tips, and more!">Cook With Cabela's</a> site for tips, tricks, and new ideas! Learn a New Skill</h2> <p><img alt="bow hunter treestand fall" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="e522ea9a-9b05-4003-81d1-d505f2b79152" height="277" src="//afd-production-eru2ractomp34-gjdjeybzcubvfrgz.z01.azurefd.net/sites/default/files/inline-images/bow_hunter_treestand_fall.jpg" style="margin: 5px; float: left;" title="Bowhunter hunting from a treestand" width="300" class="align-right" loading="lazy" />Whether you’re an old dog or a young pup, we can all learn new tricks. Devote yourself to picking up a new skill or method this next year. It could be something as simple as fishing a <a href="https://www.basspro.com/l/bass-jigs?cm_soc=onesource&amp;type=outdoor-news_the-outdoor-news_10-new-year-s-resolutions-for-hunters-anglers" target="_blank" title="Shop a wide selection of bass jigs on BassPro.com. ">football jig</a>, or an entirely new pursuit, like <a href="https://www.basspro.com/c/archery?cm_soc=onesource&amp;type=outdoor-news_the-outdoor-news_10-new-year-s-resolutions-for-hunters-anglers" target="_blank" title="Pick up all the archery gear and accessiories you need on basspro.com. ">bowhunting</a>. Even if you don’t have immediate success, the experience will make you a better hunter or angler.</p> <h2>5. Make a Habitat Improvement</h2> <p>If you love the outdoors, it’s your duty to protect the health and habitat of the wildlife you pursue. Don’t worry if you don’t have time to plant food plots or sink brush piles—simply spending a few minutes picking up trash can go a long way.</p> <p>No matter your passion, there’s a <a href="http://community.basspro.com/wildlife--habitat/" target="_blank" title="Find a complete list of our conservation partners on basspro.com. ">conservation organization</a> designed to support it. Strongly consider joining or donating to make an impact that may outlast your lifetime.</p> <h2>6. Practice One New Healthy Habit.</h2> <p>Don’t worry, we won’t mention a treadmill again, but let’s face it: the longer you live, the more you’ll get to hunt and fish. Plus, the mountains aren’t getting shorter and waves aren’t getting smaller anytime soon.</p> <p><img alt="Fly Fisherman Casting in the Mountains" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="a07f9bac-43ac-4321-88a1-f48ff964d042" height="529" src="//afd-production-eru2ractomp34-gjdjeybzcubvfrgz.z01.azurefd.net/sites/default/files/inline-images/vidar-nordli-mathisen-745010-unsplash%281%29.jpg" style="margin: 5px; float: right;" title="Angler fly fishing" width="317" class="align-right" loading="lazy" />Promise yourself that you’ll develop at least one healthy habit this year. It could be as complex as an entire workout routine, or as simple as trading that Snickers for an apple on the way out of the house.</p> <h2>7. Plan a Trip to Another State</h2> <p>We only have so many years on this giant spinning rock, don’t spend all of yours in the same spot. Take the time to venture out of your comfort zone, even if it’s only for a few days. Most states offer relatively inexpensive temporary licenses or small game tags, so don’t let a low budget deter your trip. Exploring new territory is sure to teach you new lessons you’ll quickly apply on your home turf. Find a New Fishing or Hunting Spot Close to Home</h2> <p>In your new-found wanderlust, don’t forget to explore your own backyard. Many people drive right past the best hunting and fishing spots on their way to work, without even knowing they exist. Take the time to study some plot maps and knock on a few doors—your new honey hole might be right down the road. <strong>Click here for <a href="/index.php/component/k2/215-habitat-wildlife-conservation/3180-tips-for-finding-next-season-s-hunting-hotspot" target="_blank" title="Looking for a new place to fish or hunt? Find tips on BassPro.com. ">Tips on Finding Next Season's Fishing or Hunting Hotspot</a>.</strong></p> <h2>9. Encourage Other Hunters &amp; Anglers</h2> <p><img alt="duck hunting" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="8013cccd-4d5b-4cbd-8730-6ff35cd3cf55" height="281" src="//afd-production-eru2ractomp34-gjdjeybzcubvfrgz.z01.azurefd.net/sites/default/files/inline-images/duck_hunting_0.jpg" style="margin: 5px; float: left;" title="Young duck hunters and their mom" width="300" class="align-right" loading="lazy" />Hunters and anglers are naturally competitive, it’s part of the will that drives us to succeed. While a good-natured ribbing of your buddies certainly has its place, don’t forget to holster that competitive spirit when dealing with others.</p> <p>The outside world is already too full of criticism, envy, and people getting offended. Anti-hunters and animal rights activists are licking their chops at the chance to divide and conquer the outdoor industry. As long as it’s ethical and law-abiding, take the time to support other hunters and anglers. You never know who’s listening.</p> <h2>10. Carry a Piece of History</h2> <p>From the latest <a href="https://www.basspro.com/l/broadheads?cm_soc=onesource&amp;type=outdoor-news_the-outdoor-news_10-new-year-s-resolutions-for-hunters-anglers" target="_blank" title="Shop broadheads for bowhunting on BassPro.com. This special day was set aside to provide people a chance to experience, understand and appreciate traditional outdoor sports. In addition, National Hunting and Fishing Day recognizes the contributions of sportsmen and women have on behalf of conservation.<br /><br /></p> <p>While many are aware that <a title="Learn how wildlife is thriving because of guns &amp; hunting at Bass Pro 1Source" href="/index.php/component/k2/215-habitat-wildlife-conservation/2440-how-wildlife-is-thriving-because-of-guns-and-hunting-infographic" target="_blank">several species of wildlife were on the brink of extinction</a> in the early 1900s, the fact that hunters and anglers were the earliest and most vocal supporters of conservation and scientific wildlife management is virtually unknown.  Hunters and anglers were the first to recognize that habitat loss and unregulated uses of wildlife were threatening the future of many species.<br /><br /></p> <p>Led by fellow sportsman <a title="Learn about Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership" href="http://www.trcp.org/" target="_blank">President Theodore Roosevelt</a>, these early conservationists called for the first laws restricting the commercial slaughter of wildlife. They urged sustainable use of fish and game and created hunting and fishing licenses, which still serve as an important source of funds for conservation.<br /><br /></p> <p>Another significant contribution to conservation came in 1937 when Congress passed the Pittman-Robertson Act, also known as the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act. This act, which was supported by hunters, conservation groups, state and federal government and the firearms industry, created excise taxes on firearms and ammunition (and later archery equipment) to help fund wildlife conservation efforts. In 1950, The Dingell-Johnson Sport Fish Restoration Act was passed and it authorized providing funding to the states for fisheries conservation. Since the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration program began, the program has collected more than $14 billion in excise taxes and awarded this to states for fish and wildlife conservation efforts.<br /><br /></p> <p>The actions of these concerned sportsmen were the foundation of the North American wildlife conservation model, a science-based blueprint that fostered the most dramatic conservation successes of all time. After decades of unregulated exploitation, populations of white-tailed deer, elk, antelope, wild turkey, wood ducks and many other species began to recover.<br /><br /></p> <p>During the next half-century, in addition to the funds they contributed for conservation and their diligent watch over the returning health of America’s outdoors, sportsmen worked countless hours to protect and improve millions of acres of vital habitat—lands and waters for the use and enjoyment of everyone.<br /><br /></p> <p>National Hunting and Fishing Day remains the most effective grassroots effort ever undertaken to promote the outdoors and conservation thanks in large part to the awareness created by celebrity volunteers. National Hunting and Fishing Day honorary chairs have included George Bush, Tom Seaver, Hank Williams Jr., Arnold Palmer, Terry Bradshaw, Tony Stewart, George Brett and many other sports and entertainment figures.<br /><br /></p> <p>This year, American country music star, award-winning TV host and former soldier Craig Morgan is serving as the honorary chairman for National Hunting and Fishing Day. Morgan is well known as an avid outdoorsman and also takes pride in serving others. He has made eleven overseas tours to entertain our troops and received the 2006 USO Merit Award for his tireless support of our U.S. soldiers and their families. The Tennessee native is also host of the award-winning “Craig Morgan All Access Outdoors,” on the Outdoor Channel.<br /><br /></p> <p>Morgan was recently interviewed on Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World radio where he talked about his music and his life, including his role as the 2014 honorary chairman for <a title="Learn more about Chad Morgan &amp; NHF day" href="http://bassprocorp.com/BPS/Userfiles/19/file/Honorary%20chair%20release%20final.pdf" target="_blank">National Hunting and Fishing Day</a>. People seem to love the way we do elk hunts and I suspect it has a lot to do with our hunting being very similar to how elk hunting occurs for the audience.<br /><br /></p> <p>Our archery elk hunts result in some very close up encounters — one at 12 yards and the other at 28 yards. People will have to watch to see the outcome.<br /><br /></p> <p>This season continues our self-guided hunting style, with heavy emphasis on the public lands we are hunting and how those became public lands. Important information I think hunters can benefit from.<br /><br /></p> <p>We are also adding a 30-second segment that focuses on the greatest public land access program in history — <a title="http://lwcfcoalition.org/" href="http://lwcfcoalition.org/" target="_blank">The Land and Water Conservation Fund</a>. This fund has provided millions of acres of public hunting access, yet it goes unnoticed by most of the hunting community. If not reauthorized by Congress next year, hunters will notice that, for sure.<br /><br /></p> <p><strong>What sets this season apart from others?</strong></p> <p>This is a season where things go in our favor. We work hard and we finally catch some breaks, as opposed to last year, when around every corner was some bad luck.<br /><br /></p> <p>We purposefully did more elk hunts this year. I want to dispel the myth that you need to draw some once-in-a-lifetime glory tag and pay for exclusive access, just to go elk hunting. Opportunity exists for the traveling hunter to hunt elk ever year. I think this season shows that, given how many different places we travel to hunt elk in this season — Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico.<br /><br /></p> <p><strong>If you could only take one tool (besides your gun or bow) with you on a DIY hunt, what would that be?</strong></p> <p>A good attitude, and optimism that I will have fun. Yeah, my rifle and <a title="Sho for bows at basspro.com" href="https://www.basspro.com/l/bows?cm_soc=onesource&amp;type=outdoor-news_the-outdoor-news_q-a-with-randy-newberg-of-federal-premium-s-fresh-tracks-series" target="_blank">bow</a> are primary. As far as an item of gear, that is a tough one. Probably my "never leave home without it item" is my GPS and map chip from OnXMaps that tells me land ownership information.<br /><br /></p> <p><strong>Now expand that, what is a must have checklist for any DIY hunter?</strong></p> <p>Not sure we have enough time for that in one space. It would depend upon a <a title="Shop for backpacks at basspro.com" href="https://www.basspro.com/p/redhead-rh2200-internal-frame-pack?cm_soc=onesource&amp;type=outdoor-news_the-outdoor-news_q-a-with-randy-newberg-of-federal-premium-s-fresh-tracks-series" target="_blank">backpack</a> hunt or a base camp hunt or a motel-based hunt. Would also depend heavily on the species in question.<br /><br /></p> <p>If I had to give five things, in addition to the proper mindset, they would be this:<br /><br /></p> <p>1. The best <a title="Shop for optics at basspro.com" href="https://www.basspro.com/c/optics-scopes?cm_soc=onesource&amp;type=outdoor-news_the-outdoor-news_q-a-with-randy-newberg-of-federal-premium-s-fresh-tracks-series" target="_blank">optics</a> you can afford.<br />2. Good pack, along with knowledge of how to quarter and pack out an animal.<br />3. Good <a title="Shop for hunting boots at basspro.com" href="https://www.basspro.com/l/mens-hunting-boots?cm_soc=onesource&amp;type=outdoor-news_the-outdoor-news_q-a-with-randy-newberg-of-federal-premium-s-fresh-tracks-series" target="_blank">boots</a>.<br />4. <a title="Shop for hunting clothing at basspro.com" href="https://www.basspro.com/c/hunting-clothing?cm_soc=onesource&amp;type=outdoor-news_the-outdoor-news_q-a-with-randy-newberg-of-federal-premium-s-fresh-tracks-series" target="_blank">Clothing</a> that allows you to be comfortable in all conditions and hunt hard while you are in the field.<br />5. A <a title="Shop for handheld GPS at basspro.com" href="https://www.basspro.com/l/handheld-gps-plb-cameras?cm_soc=onesource&amp;type=outdoor-news_the-outdoor-news_q-a-with-randy-newberg-of-federal-premium-s-fresh-tracks-series" target="_blank">GPS</a> that contains a map chip showing land ownership of the area you are hunting.<br /><br /></p> <p><strong>What are the biggest mistakes rookie DIY hunters make?</strong></p> <p>Focusing on tactics and not learning where to find the game.<br /><br /></p> <p>We in TV and magazines are to blame for much of that. New hunters, especially new elk hunters, need to know as much as they can about their quarry. The more you know about them and their seasonal habits, the easier it will be to find them. You can't kill one if you can't find one.<br /><br /></p> <p>Most game is taken with very similar tactics once you find the animals. The strategies and tactics from one type of hunting, say whitetails, is pretty applicable to other species, say elk.<br /><br /></p> <p>But, the manners of finding animals on your first hunt for them is not nearly as applicable. Focus on how to find game and you will end up punching a lot of tags.</p> <p> </p></div> <div class="field field--name-field-region field--type-list-string field--label-inline clearfix"> <div class="field__label">Region</div> <div class="field__item">United States</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-inline clearfix"> <div class="field__label">Tags</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/tags/hunting" hreflang="en">Hunting</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/tags/elk-hunting" hreflang="en">Elk Hunting</a></div> </div> </div> Thu, 28 Aug 2014 11:00:00 +0000 Bass Pro Shops 1Source 6098 at https://1source.basspro.com https://1source.basspro.com/news-tips/outdoor-news/6098/qa-with-randy-newberg-federal-premiums-fresh-tracks-series#comments Michigan Gets Early Teal Season for First Time in 50 Years https://1source.basspro.com/news-tips/outdoor-news/6156/michigan-gets-early-teal-season-first-time-50-years <span class="field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden">Michigan Gets Early Teal Season for First Time in 50 Years</span> <div class="field field--name-field-image-media field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item"> <img src="//afd-production-eru2ractomp34-gjdjeybzcubvfrgz.z01.azurefd.net/sites/default/files/styles/large/public/images/news-tips/8f6b7a96f37602316da88ac1922ad388.jpg?itok=6Cu-toU-" width="480" height="320" alt="News &amp; Tips: Michigan Gets Early Teal Season for First Time in 50 Years..." loading="lazy" typeof="foaf:Image" class="image-style-large" /> </div> <span class="field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden"><a title="View user profile." href="/user/bass-pro-shops-1source" lang="" about="/user/bass-pro-shops-1source" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="" content="BassRG" class="username">Bass Pro Shops…</a></span> <span class="field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden">Mon, 08/04/2014 - 10:30</span> <div class="field field--name-field-category field--type-entity-reference field--label-inline clearfix"> <div class="field__label">Category</div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/term/news-tips/outdoor-news/outdoor-news" hreflang="en">The Outdoor News</a></div> </div> <drupal-render-placeholder callback="flag.link_builder:build" arguments="0=node&amp;1=6156&amp;2=bookmark" token="AYLBzdyelkby5DLrDxvWfEeK9uuBgf3XzNqKbBsSLek"></drupal-render-placeholder><drupal-render-placeholder callback="like_and_dislike.vote_builder:build" arguments="0=node&amp;1=6156" token="93XfiJfcFo6KT9nSGMVskG9iu_sEv0haLN3xt7CZzIs"></drupal-render-placeholder> <div class="clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item"><p>Thanks to a blue-winged teal population boom over the last several years, the <a title="http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-153-10363_10859-332932--,00.html" href="http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-153-10363_10859-332932--,00.html" target="_blank">Michigan Department of Natural Resources</a> approved last month an "experimental" early teal hunting season to run Sept. 1-7 — the first of such in nearly 50 years.<br /><br /></p> <table style="border-collapse: separate; border-spacing: 10px; ; width: 100px;" align="right"><tbody><tr><td><img style="border: 1px solid #000000;" alt="BlueWingedTeal MichiganEarlyTealSeason" src="//afd-production-eru2ractomp34-gjdjeybzcubvfrgz.z01.azurefd.net/sites/default/files/inline-images/BlueWingedTeal_MichiganEarlyTealSeason.jpg" height="217" width="275" data-entity-uuid="64327c2b-604a-45d5-8def-bbe352bd5e89" data-entity-type="file" loading="lazy" /></td> </tr><tr><td><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><strong>Michigan waterfowl hunters rejoice! First, her faith and the power of prayer have been the dominant guideposts in her life. Another life-shaping force is her service to our country in the Army National Guard while her family is a source of inspiration for her, too. With nine brothers and sisters, Vail said it could have been easy to get lost in the crowd. However, her dad, recently retired Col. Mark Vail, took 10-year-old Theresa hunting when he was stationed in Germany. That bonding time ignited her passion for hunting and helped her overcome being bullied in school. She’s has run wide open ever since. <br /><br /></p> <p>Now that her reign as Miss Kansas is officially over, Vail looks forward to applying her mad skills and energy to the outdoor industry. Vail’s Miss America platform, "Empowering Women: Overcoming Stereotypes and Breaking Barriers,” is a message she wants to carry forward as a member of the SHE Outdoor pro team.<br /><br /></p> <p>“While I consider myself a tomboy, I think you can have the best of both worlds: dress up, do your hair, and be feminine but then go to the woods and not shower for a week. Women are ready to let go of the stereotypes that hold them back from enjoying themselves.”<br /><br /></p> <p>With the proliferation of pink hunting gear and apparel in recent years, there’s been a ton of talk within the women’s hunting community about stereotypes. While Vail is not a fan of pink hunting gear herself, she does acknowledge that it has its place.<br /><br /></p> <p>“I don’t want to make an issue of pink because if it gets a women involved in the outdoors that otherwise wouldn’t feel welcome, that’s great. The important thing is that we have options and can do what we want to do. As women hunters, we should support each other’s choices rather than judge them.”<br /><br /></p> <p>Vail’s next adventure has her trading in her fashion-forward Miss Kansas wardrobe for SHE Outdoor hunting apparel to host a new Outdoor Channel reality show. The show, aptly named “Limitless with Theresa Vail,” will debut in July 2015 and will feature her tackling new challenges such as hunting elk and bear. Vail said while viewers will see her struggle, what they won’t see her do is give up. As if. With the moxie Vail shows, it makes you wonder what she’ll do in the next 23 years!<span style="font-size: 10pt;"><br /><br /></span></p> <p><iframe src="//www.cincopa.com/media-platform/iframe.aspx?fid=AYEAowb7aHxJ" scrolling="no" width="600" height="430" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen" style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"></iframe></p></div> <div class="field field--name-field-region field--type-list-string field--label-inline clearfix"> <div class="field__label">Region</div> <div class="field__item">International</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-inline clearfix"> <div class="field__label">Tags</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/tags/hunting" hreflang="en">Hunting</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/tags/bow-hunting" hreflang="en">Bow Hunting</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/tags/she-outdoor-hunting-clothing" hreflang="en">SHE Outdoor Hunting Clothing</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/tags/bass-pro-shops" hreflang="en">Bass Pro Shops</a></div> </div> </div> Thu, 03 Jul 2014 20:41:14 +0000 Tammy Sapp 7618 at https://1source.basspro.com https://1source.basspro.com/news-tips/outdoor-news/7618/theresa-vail-soldier-beauty-queen-bowhunter#comments Pro-Am & Outdoor Experience: 2014 Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf https://1source.basspro.com/news-tips/outdoor-news/6421/pro-am-outdoor-experience-2014-big-cedar-lodge-legends-golf <span class="field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden">Pro-Am &amp; Outdoor Experience: 2014 Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf</span> <div class="field field--name-field-image-media field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item"> <img src="//afd-production-eru2ractomp34-gjdjeybzcubvfrgz.z01.azurefd.net/sites/default/files/styles/large/public/images/news-tips/2ce91fa985951ebbfdf6ec9281c769b0.jpg?itok=AJD6TYJt" width="480" height="320" alt="News &amp; Tips: Pro-Am &amp; Outdoor Experience: 2014 Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf..." loading="lazy" typeof="foaf:Image" class="image-style-large" /> </div> <span class="field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden"><a title="View user profile." href="/user/bass-pro-shops-1source" lang="" about="/user/bass-pro-shops-1source" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="" content="BassRG" class="username">Bass Pro Shops…</a></span> <span class="field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden">Wed, 06/04/2014 - 09:19</span> <div class="field field--name-field-category field--type-entity-reference field--label-inline clearfix"> <div class="field__label">Category</div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/term/news-tips/outdoor-news/outdoor-news" hreflang="en">The Outdoor News</a></div> </div> <drupal-render-placeholder callback="flag.link_builder:build" arguments="0=node&amp;1=6421&amp;2=bookmark" token="Thimfy2oc3bKkl1MMvxR7aagSOT3-qooPDxaCeF8aeo"></drupal-render-placeholder><drupal-render-placeholder callback="like_and_dislike.vote_builder:build" arguments="0=node&amp;1=6421" token="KY0NDjt4mRn0MG8SfJfIlmekNe8b-Jgqsd_402hOpN4"></drupal-render-placeholder> <div class="clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item"><p><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><span style="color: #800000;"><strong><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; color: #000000;">Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf Pro-Am Pairings and Outdoor Activities for Wednesday, June 4 &amp; Thursday, June 5.</span></span></strong></span><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; color: #800000;"><strong><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><br /></span></strong></span><br /></span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">There are 52 teams, with 4 amateurs and 1 professional golfer paired to complete in the <a title="Pro-Am Parings &amp; Schedules at bigcedarlegends.com" href="http://bigcedarlegends.com/pro-am.php" target="_blank">Pro-Am</a> on Wednesday and Thursday. This year marks the first time that a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event will be played on a Par-3 course. Following Friday and Saturday rounds at Buffalo Ridge and Top of the Rock (June 6-7), all contestants will play at the nine-hole Top of the Rock in the final round.<br /><br /></span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">This year’s field includes eight World Golf Hall of Fame Members across 42 teams in two divisions - the Champions Division, consisting of 31 teams, and the Legends Division (11 teams) for players ages 65 and older. Thirty-four players in both divisions have won a cumulative 91 PGA TOUR major championships. The field includes multiple Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup captains from the U.S., European and International teams.<br /><br /></span></p> <p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">The Champions Division includes the 2009 Legends of Golf champions Bernhard Langer/Tom Lehman. Langer is the current leader in the Charles Schwab Cup points standings and the current leading money winner. Other notable teams in the Champions Division include U.S Open champions Tom Watson/Andy North, Masters winners Sandy Lyle/Ian Woosnam, the major championship winning team of Nick Price/Mark O’Meara and 2013 Charles Schwab Cup winner Kenny Perry, paired with fellow Kentucky native Russ Cochran.
