In third place is Mercury/Megabass pro Aaron Martens of Leeds, Alabama weighing 62 pounds 2 ounces. Martens also won the Angler of the Year title for the second time.

Davis had a bouncy day

"I have no mully grubs today," said Davis. "My run out to Lake Erie was rough. There is a stretch on the Detroit River that is called the 'Miracle Mile'. I think it should be called the 'Miracle 20 Miles'. I have never seen so many waves in all of my life.

"I worked my tail off today to catch the fish. I only had seven bites all day. They were the right bites. Tomorrow, I will pray at take off that the wind don't blow."

Lane had a little assistance

"I need to stay focused tomorrow," said Lane. "I was not catching them great and I saw Alton Jones. I was fishing a different line than he was. I went by him and asked him if he was catching them. He said right here. I went there and started to catch them.

"It was like the heavens opened up. A ferry went by and they must have tossed rose petals in the water. They kept flaoting by and I was catching fish.

"I have a job to do tomorrow. I have to put as many pounds in livewell as I can and see what happens."

Martens had a special day

"I had one of the best days of fishing of the entire year," said Martens. "I said to myself the only thing that would make it better was if my family was here. They surprised me and showed up. They made it a thousand times better.

"Winning this Angler of the Year title is the highlight of my career."
