Here's a question that I've heard come up - what's the difference between a Bream and a Bluegill?

None. Bream (pronounced brim) is largely a southern term and can cover other species of sunfish as well.

This came up in b.a.s.s once.bream is actually a fish of its own,not sure if its even native in the u.s,looks nothing like a bluegill.however it is a southern name as bluegill is in the north for the same fish.

There are so many different varieties of small freshwater fish here that many of us just label them "Panfish" and move on. To me, a bream was always that panfish that I couldn't identify as something else. 😉
